Project Summary

.8 miles of minor arterial roadway from Scott Blvd. west to Gillespie Bridge Road with sidewalks, pedways, and new arch bridge.

Project Features

  • The Chapel Hill Road project was the construction of approximately .8 miles of minor arterial roadway in the west part of Columbia. The street was an extension of the existing Chapel Hill Road. Emery Sapp & Sons Inc was awarded the contract for construction in May, 2007. Work included clearing and grading, major storm water facilities including a regional detention basin using the roadway for impoundment and a 122 ft concrete arch slab bridge. The street was a 42 ft wide concrete pavement with an 8 ft landscape median in the center between street intersections. Sidewalks were constructed on both sides of the street. There are little league ball fields on both sides of the street necessitating the construction of a concrete walkway beneath the bridge structure to provide connecting access. A signalized intersection was constructed at Scott Boulevard. The completion of the project provides increased traffic capacity, enhanced safety, flooding protection and neighborhood amenities.
